GHOSTBUSTERS FIRE
Leaders
Anne-Marie Nuttall
Anne-Marie is currently living in West Kirby, Wirral but originates from Fleet in Hampshire. Her passions are Glaciers, walking, climbing, motorbikes and traveling.
I have been interested in travelling to remote places since organising an undergrad climbing expedition to the Karakoram in 1987. Once I discovered I have a fascination for glaciers I have mostly been to Arctic areas (Greenland, Svalbard, Alaska) and would love to go to the Antarctic one day. I have been teaching physical geography at Liverpool John Moores University since 2000 and have particularly enjoyed taking students to study glaciers in the Alps and Iceland. I look forward to working with a great bunch of people this summer and learning how the glaciers of Tasermiut fjord are reacting to climate change. I also hope to learn more about how young people develop independence and leadership skills in the field. To view Anne-Maries personal web page ....Click here
Jeff Brown
Jeff is originally from Olympia, Washington but is currently living and working in Denver, Colorado. Jeff's hobbies are skiing, mountain biking, hikin, photography, paddling and rock climbing. When he is not in the great outdoors he works for Valor Christian Schools
"I have had the privilege of spending 400 days guiding groups in the wilderness and over 180 days of program rock site management. In addition, I have worked for a number of outdoor programs, and most recently the challenge to develop an outdoor education program for my current employer. I bring with me years of guiding groups as they develop and grow into effective teams along with the training and expertise to keep them safe in the process. My hope for this summer is to further develop my outdoor leadership skills as well as to learn more about glaciology".

Laura Le Cheminant
Lau, from London, has worked in the charity sector since leaving University. She took part in an expedition to Ellesmere Island, Arctic Canada, in 2006 which sparked the start of a career move... and love for all things natural.
I left the charity sector to re-train as an outdoor activity instructor in 2007 and spent the next five months working as a walk organiser in the Dolomites, Italy. I loved the mixture of working in a beautiful environment whilst meeting many interesting people. Since returning to the UK I've gone back into the charity sector for a brief period, as well as working as a freelance instructor for my local climbing wall.
Having completed an expedition when I was younger, I know the profound effect it had on my life, outlook and ambitions, and feel passionate about working in an organisation that offers these same opportunities to others. I have no doubt it'll be a truly amazing experience for us all, and I'm really excited to be working with the Ghostbusters Fire.
Fire members
Richard Brown
17 year old Richard from Grantham attends Kings Grantham Grammar School. He is a member of the Combined Cadet Force and Oakham Rugby club. He says "my main interest is in physical geography, which I wish to study at university, but I also enjoy a full range of sports and other outward bound activities. I play a lot of sports: rugby (school, club, county etc), waterpolo (school and east midlands) and sailing. I hope to experience a new, harder lifestyle whilst pushing my boundaries to the limit! I hope to also build lifelong friendships between people in my fire and across the expedition. On an outward bound perspective, I wish to build on my knowledge of climbing and walking for the future and also learn more about glaciology first hand, for my future in physical geography. My main worry is that I hope not let any of my fire members down, and maintain good relations throughout – something that will be hard over a month. But I am most looking forward to getting to know and living with my fire members more after we started off brilliantly at the briefing weekend!

Bertie Tysom
17 year old Bertie lives in London and studies at St. Paul's School, Barnes. His main interest is rowing for his school.
" I'm looking forward to going somewhere completely different from anywhere I've ever been before. I am also looking forward to seeing how I survive on my own for a month. One thing I would really like to see, if possible in the very few hours of darkness, would be the Northern Lights, which I think would be incredible. Probably the one part of this expedition I'm most worried about is how much food there will be because I tend to eat a lot!"

Katy McCalister
Katy is 17 and from Dunblane. She studies at Dunblane High School and enjoys cooking, playing the cello and piano and drawing. Katy says "I am hoping to see some new things, some beautiful things and some slightly more ordinary things. I want to climb mountains, make friends and get thin(ner). I would like to come back nicer, more confident and with some idea of what I want to get out of life.
Mostly I’m looking forward to getting to know the amazing people in my fire. Also the great environment and the chance to do some real scientific research. I’m worried about not being able to keep up and being homesick. I hope this will be an amazing adventure, and that I’ll have the time of my life!"

"I am very interested in physical geography and I want to get a masters in glaciology, this expedition will let me gain first hand experience with living and working on a glacier. I think it’s a great opportunity, as not many people can say they have been to Greenland! I hope to make lifelong friends on the expedition. I am a bit worried that we wont all get along, especially as 5 weeks is a really long time! But everyone seemed to get on alright at the briefing weekend so hopefully it will work out fine. I cant wait to go now and have the experience of a life time!"
